Troy Williams, DJ Commando, grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1983 Troy joined 89.7 FM, KOJC. In those 13 years with the radio station he opened up for many shows including Ice Cube, Too Short, Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock and Tony Toni Tone. Throughout the 80’s Troy became an icon for the state of Iowa with his work at these shows, house parties and clubs. In 1990 Troy was signed to an independent label in New York with the group Soldiers N Command and from then on became known as “DJ Commando.”
With his new name DJ Commando moved to Waterloo, Iowa where he continue his passion of spreading music at clubs and on the radio. In 2002 Commando’s career kicked into gear as he joined 100.1 FM, KBOL, in Waterloo and joined the world’s largest DJ Coalition, Core DJs. In the following years he would work and create mix show for 88.5 FM KALA, 1073 VIP (internet radio station), Shade 45, 92 FM BIMA and festivals such as 515 Alive and 319 Fest.
